Modalities

Modalidades oficiales de pelota

The FIPV considers a Modality to be the kind of court where play takes place and a Speciality to be what is played on that court. There are 4 Modalities: Trinquete, 30-metre Fronton, 36-metre Fronton and 54-metre Fronton. Within these Modalities, the FIPV considers 14 official specialities. Women participate in two of them.

  • The Trinquete is used to play Paleta [paddle] with a rubber pelota (Men and Women) or with a leather pelota, Mano [hand (ball)] (Singles and Doubles) and Xare (or Share).
  • The 36-metre Fronton (also called Short or Left-Wall Fronton) is used to play Pala Corta [short bat], Paleta with a leather pelota and Mano (Singles and Doubles).
  • The 30-metre Fronton is used to play Frontenis (Men and Women) and Paleta with a rubber pelota.
  • The 54-metre Fronton (also called Long Fronton or Jai Alai) is used to play Cesta Punta.
